Costume Jewellery — The Whole Embey Vally Range

Four hundred and forty-six pieces, sorted cheapest first, and the sort order barely does anything. The floor is $0.20. The ceiling is $1.03. Three hundred and fifty-seven of them cost less than fifty cents.

That is not a typo and it is not a sale. It is what alloy costume jewellery costs at the factory gate in Surat, which is where Embey Vally sits.

So be clear about what these are. Alloy, pearl and plated bases. Not sterling silver, not gold, not vermeil. A plated chain worn daily will show wear at the clasp inside a year, and no amount of careful storage changes that. If you want a piece that outlasts the decade, Paksha’s 925 range is the other direction entirely and it starts at $34.99.

What the price actually buys you is permission. At forty cents a piece, the calculus that governs real jewellery — wear it carefully, wear it rarely, keep it for the occasion — stops applying. You can layer four chains because four chains cost under two dollars. You can buy the colour you are not sure about. You can let a teenager borrow it. You can lose one at a wedding and feel nothing. That is a genuinely different relationship to an object, and it is the only honest reason to shop this range.

The catalogue splits six ways:

• Necklaces, 184 pieces, $0.20 to $1.03 — the deepest category and the widest price spread
• Bracelets, 88 — median $0.36
• Earrings, 81 — median $0.31, tied with anklets as the cheapest category
• Mangalsutras, 77 — the one category where we stock nothing else, covered on its own page
• Anklets, 14 — median $0.31
• Sets, 2

One thing the per-item price hides. Embey Vally ships from Gujarat, and international delivery is the entire cost of this transaction — the goods are a rounding error against the postage. Our standing guidance that an Embey Vally order lands under $25 all-in describes the shipping envelope, not the jewellery. A single $0.36 mangalsutra posted to New Jersey is an absurd order. Twenty of them is a sensible one. Build a basket before you check out.
